Tucson Youth Domestic Violence Awareness Month Art Contest
Tucson Youth Domestic Violence Awareness Month Art Contest
We are giving away $2,500 in cash to 15 young people who can creatively showcase what they are doing to interrogate, deconstruct, and speak back to harmful ideas about gender roles and violence.
This year, for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are launching a Youth Art Competition that is open to all young folks in Tucson (aged 10-24).
Violence can take many different forms, and it is often normalized in our communities as just the way things are. Stereotypes about gender can often times provide a blue print for the rules about we treat others based on superiority or inferiority because of gender identity, race, sexual orientation, ability, documentation status, or some other label.
But all over Pima County, young people are stepping up to challenge our communities about what we call “normal.” They are demanding and envisioning alternatives for being together based in safety, equity, respect, and love.
What would a world without Domestic Violence look like?
What would it be like to inhabit a world where you were totally free to be your authentic self, regardless of gender stereotypes or control?
What are you doing to dismantle a world where violence is considered “normal”?
Articulate your vision using all the creative tools at your disposal.
Submissions can been the form of essay, poetry, music, art, photography, film, etc.
The deadline for all submissions is October 30th. Check out the link in our bio for the submission link and to find out more info.
