  2. How old do you have to be?

Boys to Men Tucson serves youth ages 13-18 in our school-based groups. Our community-based groups extend support up to 24 years old.

  3. My child’s school doesn’t have this program, but I wish it did–what can i do?

We have community-based groups throughout Pima County. Visit our event calendar to find a location near you—no registration required to join. You can also reach out to your child’s school administration or school counselor to inquire about the possibility of starting the program at their school.

  4. Can I / my friend go sit in on a group before becoming a mentor to see if I like it?

Unfortunately, we only allow our background-checked and trained mentors to sit in on the circle with the youth. It takes time and trust for the youth to feel comfortable and understand the safe space we create within the circle. Having untrained individuals drop in can potentially disrupt this environment, causing the youth to hesitate in being vulnerable and sharing personal experiences. The best way to determine if this program is a good fit for you is to attend one of our mentor training sessions.

  5. How large is the commitment to sitting in a site-based circle? What if I can only attend part of the time?

Most circles last about an hour. We ask that mentors arrive at least 20 minutes before the circle starts and stay for a debrief afterward. In total, it's about a 2-hour commitment each week.

  6. I cant commit to facilitating a group, how else can I mentor?

There are various ways to interact with and mentor youth in the program. Mentors are always needed for Adventure Outings, Challenge Adventure Weekends, Community Talking Circles, Community Advisory Committee, Board of Directors and more! For more information, please contact us at info@btmtucson.com

  7. I have an idea for an Adventure Outing? Who should I talk to?

Contact us at info@btmtucson.com and share your ideas. We will reach back out to set up a time to chat and strategize on how to make it happen!

  8. Are there other ways that I can volunteer to support the organization besides mentoring?

Yes! We have a variety of volunteers who support our operations behind the scenes. We rely on grants and fundraising in order to fully operate our Non-Profit. If you could help us fundraise in any way that would be greatly appreciated! We take donations in many ways:
    ● The DONATE section on our website that takes any credit card
    ● Arizona Tax Credit
    ● Corporate Sponsorships
    ● Amazon Smile
    ● Annual Fundraising Events

  9. Is this one-on-one mentoring?

We do not offer one-on-one mentoring. Our site-based weekly talking circles use the restorative circle framework, which integrates social-emotional learning to bring people together to address harmful behaviors, actions, personal issues, and more. This process allows participants to explore the issue at hand, address and discuss needs, build healthy relationships, resolve conflicts, repair harm, restore positive relationships, and reduce, prevent, or improve harmful behaviors.
