Important Men’s Work
There was a time, long ago, when communities clearly understood the critical importance of the adult men initiating adolescent boys who were on the threshold of manhood. These rites of passage helped the boys realize the need to leave childhood behind and to begin to explore their path toward becoming mature men. Back then, there were men were available to guide, encourage, challenge and provide the support the boys needed. Through this process, the boys came to know themselves better, felt connected to a group of caring men, and found their appropriate place in the life of their village. Sadly, today, too many of our young men do not have this positive crossing experience and we’re all paying the costs of them trying to initiate themselves into manhood.
In our Tucson village, when the time is right, the men of Boys to Men Tucson conduct a powerful passage weekend experience for our boys. It’s a wild ride, using an ancient initiatory model, and conducted in the desert wilderness. Once the weekend is complete, the courageous young initiates are called “journeymen” going forward. This is to acknowledge their having intentionally stepped onto their personal path toward a positive manhood.
MEN: If you’d like to be part of this passage experience, contact us or leave a message on the BTMT hot line: 520-344-3624. Someone will call you back soon. If you’ve read this far, it means you can hear the call action. We hope you will join us in this important men’s work.
PARENTS: As these weekends approach we hold parent information meetings where you can ask additional questions and meet the parents of other young men thinking about this for their children. If you’d like to learn more about a Rite of Passage experience for your adolescent son, please contact us or leave a message on the BTMT hot line: 520-344-3624 Someone will call you back soon.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how much good this program is doing for [my son] right now. He’s been on the edge of depression for about 6 months, and he LOVES these weekends. They are literally saving my son, as I knew they would!”
